Catholic Bishop Slammed ASAP XV for Insensitivity on the Observance of Holy Week

cbcp logoA member bishop of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippine or CBCP has decried the insensitivity of a TV station of the observance of the Holy Week.

Msgr. Gaspar Balerite, Bishop of Catarman, Northern Samar slammed the Sunday TV show of ABS-CBN that went on broadcast from Boracay Island last Sunday.  The show was ASAP XV.

He was so displeased by the noon time variety show as people on skimpy clothes paraded while Palm Sunday is being celebrated by Christendom.

In a text message, Msgr. Balerite said,

Since you are in the media, kindly bring this to [their] attention – that they be sensitive to Holy Week, that they respect this Catholic observance.  Just this noon, Channel 2 showed a beach scene with girls in skimpy bikinis and it is Passion Sunday.

He reminded the people that Holy Week is the time for the observance of penitence; repentance, prayer and abstinence, and not merry-making.

Boracay Island is the destination of most people during the Holy Week to take short break and vacation.

Sensya na po a, kapuso kasi ako e. Hehehehe… So taped pala yung ASAP XV na ‘to? All the more reason for ABS-CBN not to have aired it since they have presumably viewed the material prior to airing – which was Passion Sunday ngahttp://comluv.com/ naman as the bishop stated.
