Why ABS-CBN Will Not Let Go of Willie Revillame

The site has already reached more than 200,000 people who wants more or less Willie Revillame to resign or simply get kicked off from ABS-CBN noontime TV show “Wowowee”.  But after weeks of silence and non-appearance on the TV program and gives him P25 million a month, and with all the rumors and speculations that he is already going to transfer to TV5, Willie Revillame broke his silence through an interview with TV 5’s Paparazzi.

Yes, he is not “yet” leaving his prized noontime show though the date of making a come-back is still hazy.

“Hindi pa naman ako umalis. Malalaman ng lahat kung ano ang desisyon ko. May panahon para diyan, may takdang panahon para diyan.”

ABS-CBN Management has done some closed-door meetings between Revillame and Sucaldito to settle the issue but up to now, Willie is still resolve on his demands for the latter to be fired from the station.

Why is it very difficult for ABS-CBN to let go of Willie Revillame?

The bottomline here is pure money.  Yes.

Willie Revillame’s Wowowee is perfect noontime TV show, which is, capitalizing on the poverty of the masses with melodramatic interludes during their program’s contests while at the same time always chanting the mantra of the show giving hope and fulfilling the dreams of hapless Filipinos.  Proof to the popularity of the show to the masses is the “Wowowee Stampede”.

While Willie is bringing home P25 million a month, ABS-CBN is earning for sure millions of pesos a month from the program through advertisements and sponsors.

The relationship is therefore mutual.  And with “Eat Bulaga” from its fiercest rival GMA7 ready to eat the noontime programming if “Wowowee” falters, ABS-CBN cannot and will not afford to lose the show and the host that makes the cash register ring.

So the story is not yet over.  Let us see how ABS-CBN will handle this issue.  “Calling the crisis management committee, please proceed to Ms. Charo-Santos’ office…”
