2 Fil-Ams Get Oscar Nominations


Hailee Steinfield and Matthew Libatique, both Filipino by blood are nominees to Oscar Awards 2011.

14-year-old Steinfield got nominated for Oscar‘s Best Supporting Actress for her role in “True Grit”. Cherry, her mother, is part Filipino, African-American and part European American who grew up in California while her father is Jewish. She has been in the biz since 8 years old and has received various nominations including London Film Critics Circle Award for Actress of the Year, BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Leading Role and Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Most Promising Performer.

On the other hand, Filipino pride Matthew Libatique got nominated in Oscar‘s for Best Cinematography for the movie “Black Swan”. He had established his name in the field of Hollywood cinematography and has shown his mastery of his craft on several movies like Protozoa and Iron Man.

The 83rd Academy Awarding Ceremonies most known as Oscar Awards will be held next month at the end of February, 2011 in Los Angeles.
