Azkals Win vs Bangladesh 3-0; “Azkals Dream Team” to be Formed

If the United States of America had their own “Dream Team” that proved too strong against its opponents and had constantly brought home gold medals from the Olympic basketball competition, the Philippine National Football team will also form its own “Dream Team.”

After winning against Bangladesh last Friday on a one-sided offensive game of 3-0, the Philippine Azkals made history as they qualified for the 2012 Challenge Cup main tournament.  On their first two games, they managed a 1-1 draw against Myanmar and 0-0 game with Palestine.

The Azkals ended up on the second spot next to Palestine.

With a tougher challenge ahead, the Azkals are expected to train harder and beef up its roster of players to keep at par with stronger and more-experienced teams on the main tournament next year.

The team is reportedly eyeing more recruits.  Most of these expected new team members are based abroad and who are already playing on different football leagues.

Azkals team manager Dan Palami said during an interview in Myanmar,

“For the World Cup qualifiers, I’m hoping that we will be able to form our Dream Team.”

He added that what he have seen during the AFC Challenge cup is a team that has only shown 60% of its full potential.

But before the Azkals go back to the drawing board and on the field, they are headed for a much-needed break they deserve after a very tough tournament.  They are expected to go home and rest.  On the other hand, their coaches are going to be very busy working for the team, scouting for players and preparing for the next tournament.

According to reports, team coach Michael Weiss is going home to Germany and look for Fil-foreign players.  On the other hand, Aly Borromeo, Simon Greatwich and Anton del Rosario and flying to the US to conduct try outs.
