Jo Ramos Succumbs to Lung Cancer at 54

 

It is indeed a sad day for former Philippine President, Fidel V. Ramos, who lost his beloved daughter, Josephine Martinez Ramos, this morning.

Josephine Ramos, or better known as Jo, is the second of 5 daughters of the former President and his wife, Amelia “Ming” Ramos. She was a musical artist and used to sing for Gary Valenciano’s Powerplay Band. She has performed at the Cultural Center of the Philippines several times under the tutelage of composer Maritess Salientes and Louie Ocampo.

Aside from music, Jo Ramos is also an avid athlete. She was a member of the Philippine Ladies National Water Skiing Team, which won awards at eh 1970s South East Asian Games.

Jo, who was once married to actor Lloyd Samartino, is survived by her 17 year old son Sergio. Her remains lie at La Funenaria Paz at the Manila Memorial Park at Sucat, Parañaque. Interment will be on July 1 at 12 p.m.

Meanwhile, her father, Former President Ramos, has thanked all those who extended their sympathy. He also told reporters that Jo was a smoker for 25 years which may have cause her lung cancer. He furthered shared that his daughter had kept her illness a secret for the longest time. The family only found out 5 weeks before she passed away.
