Canadian Freestyle Skier Died
The 29 – year old, four-time Winter X Gold Medalist, Sarah Burke, has died yesterday. She had been in a coma since her ski accident last January 10, 2012 while doing her training at a super pipe in Park City Mountain Resort Eagle. She had suffered “irreversible damage to her brain due to lack of oxygen and blood after cardiac arrest”according to Burke’s publicist. She had a successful operation last Thursday to repair a torn vertebral artery that caused bleeding between her brain and skull, but she still remained comatose.
Her husband Roy Bushfield, who’s also a skier, became teary eyed when he saw video clips about their life. He said that they were always a happy couple, whether it’s an X Games contest or just simply snowmobiling together. ” It’s what our lives are, is being on the hill. And there’s a reason for that, it’s amazing, it’s where we met, it’s where we play,we live, and hopefully where we’ll die.” he added with a very distress look. Her organs and tissues were donated, as per her wish.
Because of this accident, people were reminded that athletes who’s competing in extreme sports such as this are putting their lives at stake. Burke’s agent and publicist had set up a fund raising activity to help out her family since hospital bills had summed up to $550,000.Get free updates directly to your e-mail from Showbiz Renegade.
