Tyra Banks Sacks 3 ANTM Judges
When the ratings fall, so will the axe. But will the producers of ‘America’s Next Top Model’ see a rise in rating after axing these people — long-time judges and mentors for the show?
Tyra Banks made the shocking announcement on Friday that Nigel Barker, Jay Manuel and J. Alexander will no longer be part of the show’s Cycle 18.
Banks thanked the three long-time judges on her official Facebook page, writing, “To my Nigel Barker, Miss J, and Mr Jay: Thank you for all of our years together on America’s Next Top Model. Working with you is always an absolute pleasure. Excited for what the future holds for us.”
Of the three, Barker was said to be the least surprised. He said the news “wasn’t a shock” to him.
“I’m friends with Tyra and the producers. There had been a discussion that ratings were down and that something like this would happen,” Barker explained.
Barker also insists he feels no bitterness against host and producer Banks, saying, “We had an incredible run. This isn’t a Tyra thing. This is a network thing. My contract was so exclusive that it was holding me back from other projects.”
Alexander (known affectionately as ‘Miss J’), who also acted as catwalk mentor for the show did not share Barker’s feelings. He was just as surprised as everyone else over his being fired from the show.
“After 18 cycles, I found myself in the bottom three and Tyra pulled a surprise triple elimination. I didn’t even get to runway for my life”, Miss J told ‘Us Weekly’.Get free updates directly to your e-mail from Showbiz Renegade.
