AFF Suzuki Cup 2012: Philippines vs Myanmar Game a Must-Win for Azkals

After a stunning win against Vietname courtesy of the super-sub Chieffy Caligdong, the Philippine Azkals need to not to be overconfident and have to strategize in a must-win situation against Myanmar.

The Philippine Azkals will face the football team of Myanmar on November 30 for the continuation of the group stages of the AFC Suzuki Cup 2012.  The tournament is being held in Thailand.

In their first outing, the Azkals faced Thailand and lost with a 2-1 scoreline.  The Thais, though smaller in size and height against the Filipino booters, showed their aggressive and physical play that took its toll on Philippine players.

In their second game, which was a must-win for the Philippines, the Azkals made a repeat of their historic win against Vietnam in 2010.  It was the last substitute for the Azkals, Caligdong, through a great pass from Angel Guirado that won for the team the game (1-0) giving them 3 points.

Last of their opponent in their group stage matches is Myanmar.

According to Coach Michael Weiss, they need to stick their heads together and focus in order to clutch the much-needed win.  A win will send the Azkals to the semi-finals.

“We have to re-strategize for our next match and I would like to point out that Myanmar are not the weakest team in the group.”

A win will also put them in second place in Group A after Thailand which occupies the top spot with 6 points.

The game between the Azkals and Myanmar’s White Angels will be held at the Supachalasai Stadium in Bangkok.
