‘The Ides Of March’ Combines Star Power and Moral Fable

George Clooney leads a stellar cast of actors like Ryan Gosling, Evan Rachel Wood, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti and Marisa Tomei in ‘The Ides of March’, a political thriller that Clooney also directed.

Gosling plays Stephen Meyers, an up and coming campaign press secretary who finds himself in the middle of a race for the Ohio presidential primary. The relative newcomer also gets implicated in a political scandal that puts his candidate’s presidential bid in jeopardy. As the story takes its twists and turns, the Meyers character gets a crash course in dirty politics.

Evan Rachel Wood stars as Molly Stearns, an intern in the staff of Clooney’s character Governor Mike Morris of Pennsylvania. “It’s not really about politics; I think it’s about people,” Wood stated at the film’s Los Angeles premiere. “It makes us take a good hard look at ourselves a bit and what we’re willing to do and what we’re willing to sacrifice for what we believe is the greater good — and who gets hurt in the process. There’s no real hero or villain in this, it’s kind of interesting.”

A star-studded cast and the way the film tackles dirty politics made it a film worth watching on a weekend.
