Pink Ribbon Creator Died at 75

 

American socialite and philanthropist Evelyn Lauder, died yesterday at her home in Manhattan. Reports were saying that her death was caused by a non-genetic ovarian cancer. She was also diagnosed with breast cancer in 1989.

Lauder and her friend Alexandra Penney were the creators of Pink Ribbon campaign for breast cancer awareness. She also founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation which by the time has came up with $350 million .

According to Elizabeth Hurley “Evelyn Lauder was an amazing woman and her phenomenal work for breast cancer will never be forgotten,” She inspired me in so many ways and I learned so much from her. She was a wonderful friend to me for over 17 years and I will miss her terribly.”

Lauder was married to Leonard A. Lauder, the director of Estee Lauder Companies. The family operated a cosmetics business and created several brands like Clinique, MAC, Aveda, Bobbi Brown ,
La Mer and their very own Estee Lauder. The couple have 2 sons, William, who is currently the executive chairman of the company and Gary, managing director of Lauder partners LCC.

A statement was given by William saying “My mother carried the torch of our Company heritage and the values that were passed to her by my grandmother, Mrs. Estée Lauder,. My mother and father were life partners as well as business partners. They nurtured the culture and growth of the Estée Lauder Companies, and as we grew, my mother was our creative compass and pillar of strength. Together my family and the company celebrate the beautiful person she was.”
