Nadal vs Djokovic: Novak Djokovic Beats Rafael Nadal to win Australian Open 2012

 

It was the thoughest match we ever seen, yet the defending champion and world no. 1 Novak Djokovic beat second seed Rafael Nadal 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7, 7-5 to win the title and his third Australian Open on Sunday. Novak Djokovic is also the favourite to win the title.

Apparently, the final game lasted for five hours and 53 minutes. Novak Djokovic, who won the title at Melbourne Park in 2008 and 2011, Djokovic now won five Grand Slam titles in total and continues his recent domination over the Spaniard, having beaten him in their last seven meetings, all in finals.

According to reports, the final broke the record as the longest match in tournament history when it hit 5hr 15min.  Furthermore, the match was also the longest Grand Slam final on record, outstripping the 1988 US Open final between Mats Wilander and Ivan Lendl, which lasted 4hr 54min.

During the game,D jokovic, who was stepping inside the court and attacking Nadal’s top-spin forehand while compelling the Spaniard to play from deep behind the baseline, again pressured Nadal on serve then held his own serve to love to take a 5-2 lead.

It was their 30th match, with Nadal winning 16 of their games, but Djokovic won the 2011 US Open Men’s Final, and became the second player to defeat Nadal in more than one Grand Slam title.
