Azkals Must Win Against Bangladesh or It Will be the End

Our very own Philippine National Football Team of the “Azkals” are put in a crucial situation as they face the last of their foe on their group stage match this afternoon in Myanmar.

The Azkals are to slug it out in the field against Bangladesh for their final match of AFC Challenge Cup qualifier.

During their last two outings, the Philippines salvaged a 1-1 draw against Myanmar and a 0-0 game against Palestine.  Now, the match this afternoon that will start around 3:30 PM becomes so important to keep the national team’s bid for the AFC Cup in 2012.

This afternoon, the Azkals need a win against Bangladesh.

In their group, Palestine is on top with Bangladesh at the second spot; Philippines comes third.  The top two teams will qualify to the next stage.

A loss or a draw this afternoon will automatically send the Azkals crashing and it will be the end of their bid for this tournament.

Coach Michael Weiss sees the importance of nailing a win against the Bengal Tigers this afternoon.

“We have to win the match. If you want to succeed you cannot do it with draws. We must win this match.”

As for the strategy of the team, several of the team members are resolved to put the pressure on Bangladesh early on.  And they need to score early on.

But Bangladesh will make things difficult for the Azkals as they promised to win the match.  Their coach Rubcic said during a press conference,

“We will go for it. We will try. Everybody in Bangladesh wants us to win.”

Go Azkals!
