Tracy Morgan Apologizes for Homophobic Rant

“30 Rock” star Tracy Morgan was recently at the receiving end of hate and disgust following a homophobic rant he made during a stand-up comedy act in Nashville last June 3.

Morgan’s comment during his performance became a hot topic of discussion in the online community after a disgruntled audience member voiced his disgust over Morgan’s remark on Facebook.

According to the said audience member the actor said, “He would kill his son if he were gay.”

A father of three boys, Morgan has since apologized for his actions… just after his on-stage homophobic rant went viral.

Morgan was quoted as saying, “I want to apologize to my fans and the gay and lesbian community for my choice of words at my recent stand-up act in Nashville.”

He added, “I’m not a hateful person and don’t condone any kind of violence against others… While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context.”

Despite Morgan’s apology, I personally think he meant what he said (as they say, jokes are always half-meant)… not because he has an axe to grind against gay people in general, but he said what he did speaking as a father who prefers that his sons grow up as “real” men having “normal” heterosexual relationships.

Have you ever come across a father who said, “I want to have a son… and I hope he grows up to be gay”?

Even a gay father I know did not wish that for his own son, although he also did not say he would kill his son if he turns out to be gay.
