Detective Grant: Investigating Tabloid Editors

“Operation Tabloid Investigation” seems perfect for a movie title, but it is not -it is the new mission of English Actor and Film producer Hugh Grant as he plays inspector, uncovering the secrets and unscrupulous ways of the tabloid and media world.

The 50-year-old Notting Hill and Four Weddings and a Funeral star has recently revealed to public the unsavory methods of tabloid journalism. In his essay for the New Statesman last April, he spoke of a taped conversation he had with a former News of the World editor. Apparently, the editor had admitted to “hacking” and other dishonorable means of obtaining information from people considered newsworthy– including Grant himself.

Most recently, the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and actress Sienna Miller were among the named victims of hacking by the
Rupert Murdoch-owned News of the World staffs. Reportedly, a total of 91 people were targeted, including a woman who was murdered.

The News of the World allegedly hacked into the dead woman’s cellphone in 2002 and deleted some of her voicemails, erasing evidences of the crime.

Authorities are now turning up the heat on the investigation and they are asking the British actor to bring in his expertise to the investigation.
