Oprah Not Hosting Next Year’s Academy Awards

How can there be rumors about media mogul Oprah Winfrey hosting the 84th Annual Academy Awards in February 2012 when talks about the production have not even started yet?

In a sense, this is what the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Tom Sherak, is trying to convey when asked about the rumors flying around Hollywood circles that well-loved TV host Oprah Winfrey will be next year’s Oscar awards show host.

So, no Oprah has not locked in TV’s most high-profile hosting gig… not just yet.

Sherak was quoted as saying, “It’s not true, and I don’t know where that story even came from.”

He explained further, “You have to remember how it works…First, I have to hire a producer, and then the producer comes to the Academy with suggestions for the host. So how could we have a host without a producer?”

As for her Oscar background, Lady O was nominated in 1986 for a Best Supporting Actress trophy and she appeared again at the 2011 show to present the Oscar statuette for best Documentary feature.
