Letterman Studio Trashed Twice in Less than a Week

The Ed Sullivan Theater in New York was vandalized twice in less than a week.

Days ago, James Whittemore, 22, broke into the theater and broke glass windows and left the theater in major disarray.

It has been four days since and another guy, Alvin Moore more broke into the theater and trashed the place. Unlike Whittemore, Moore was sober but he was intoxicated with something else — jealousy.

Alvin Moore Trashes Ed Sullivan Theater for Publicity

Moore was “jealous of the publicity the first individual received Monday” so he did a remake of the break in on Thursday, July 14 at 1 a.m. according to New York police commissioner Ray Kelly.

Moore, 42, used a newspaper box to break several glass panes. A security guard wielding a golf club tackled Moore and called the cops informing them of “another copycat.” Kelly noted that Moore, an aspiring musician, knew of the previous break in attempt and did the crime to get some publicity to help his music career.

Moore was taken to St. Luke’s hospital to have his head wound checked. Moore got hurt during the scuffle with the security guard. He was later brought to the Manhattan North police station and charged with third-degree criminal mischief and menacing.

Letterman talks about the first break-in humorously in his show and even made it the topic of his top ten list. In his monologue, he enumerates “Top Ten Excuses of the Guy Who Broke into the Sullivan Theatre.”
