Michelle Obama Joining Forces with TV

Gone are the days when first ladies were mere appendages to their husband president. President after president, term after term, first ladies are taking more pro-active roles in bettering the country in whichever way they can.

Michelle Obama is surely setting the bar pretty high for the next first lady.

Once again, Mrs. Obama will promote Joining Forces by making appearances on television. US’ first lady is set to join in a taping of Extreme Makeover Home Edition with the Marshalls, a military family. The episode will be shot on July 21, Thursday in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

The episode, which will be aired later this year, features a Navy Veteran. Barbara Marshall, a 15-year veteran, created The Steps-N-Stages Jubilee House which provides shelter and support services to homeless female vets.

Watch out for the first lady cheer “move that bus” sometime October. The show hosted by Ty Pennington airs Sunday nights at ABC.

Still in line with efforts to promote Joining Forces, Mrs. Obama guested on Nickelodeon’s iCarly. The episode will air on January 2012. The first lady will come into the story when Carly’s two bestfriends break some rules to so Carly can talk to her dad via web chat. Carly’s dad is a colonel serving overseas in the military.

The Joining Forces is a comprehensive initiative to mobilize people to support military families. It aims at increasing awareness and bringing attention to the needs and strengths of America’s military families.
