Kim Kardashian Sues Old Navy and Gap, Inc.

As they say, “Imitation is the highest form of flattery” – but not for Kim Kardashian.

Copy her or hire somebody to even vaguely resemble her and you will surely get sued. This is what happened to Old Navy and its parent company, Gap Inc. who now has to answer a lawsuit filed by Kim Kardashian for supposed ‘violation of her publicity rights’.

The lawsuit stems from a commercial aired last February wherein Old Navy featured a model, named Melissa Molinaro, who closely resembled Kardashian to promote the store’s line of clothing.

According to the lawsuit filed in a Los Angeles federal court, Kardashian claims that the ads may lead consumers into thinking she is the one endorsing Old Navy’s products.

The court papers also stated that Kardashian “has invested substantial time, energy, finances and entrepreneurial effort in developing her considerable professional and commercial achievements and success, as well as in developing her popularity, fame, and prominence in the public eye.”

Kardashian is seeking unspecified damages and is asking the federal judge to prevent Old Navy from using her look-alike again.
