Dirty Dancing Remake With MJ’s Choreographer

Lionsgate has announced the official remake of the 1987 film Dirty Dancing with its original director Kenny Ortega. He is the famous choreographer of High School Musical and Michael Jackson’s “This Is It fame” documentary. The film formerly starred Jennifer Grey as Frances “Baby” Houseman with Patrick Swayze as Johnny Castle being her dance partner and love interest. In the upcoming remake, Grey can portray the new “Baby”‘s mom.

“We believe that the timing couldn’t be better to modernize this story on the big screen, and we are proud to have Kenny Ortega at the helm.” as what Joe Drake said, the president of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group.

According to Ortega, he can’t wait to begin the process of discovering the “next breakout triple-threats”. “I am looking forward to assembling a great creative team and an exciting cast to bring ‘Dirty Dancing’ to the screen for a new generation,” he added. For Ortega, directing the film once more is like “returning home”.

Lionsgate is presently in a negotiation with Eleanor Bergstein to sign on in a producer’s capacity. She wrote and produced the original film.

The original Dirty Dancing film earned more than $215 million from a $6 million cost. Its popularity is also evident in their astounding 9.4 million fans in their official Facebook page. It is also considered as one of Lionsgate’s most popular catalogue titles having sold more than 10 million units on DVD.
