Ekta Kapoor Held At Customs For Undeclared RS 1 Lakh Worth Of Goods

Producer Ekta Kapoor was held in the Customs Department of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) last Sunday by Thai Airways flight TG-317 at around 11pm. She passed by the Green Channel with undeclared Rs 1 lakh worth of goods. Accordingly to rules, only goods worth Rs25,000 and below are allowed duty free in a passenger’s baggage. Beyond that amount, the passenger should pass the Red Channel and declare the goods pay for the corresponding duty of the excess baggage.

According to the Customs officials, when they checked her 3 bags, there were around 50 apparels and 8 international brand purses. “She had a lot of branded articles and was passing through the green channel. We imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on her. She was let off later,” said a customs official.

According to Kapoor’s statement to the authorities, she was not aware of the rules and that she needs to declare goods at this amount. However, as the saying goes, “Ignorance of the law excuses no one”, Kapoor would really face the consequences and pay her obligations.

Ekta is a TV and film producer. She is the Creative Director and Joint Managing Director of her production company, Balaji Telefilms. She is producing the upcoming film “The Dirty Picture”.
