Ram Gopal Varma Welcomes Legal Notices

Publicity, whether good or bad is still publicity.

So, unlike other people who shudder at the mere thought of being sent a legal notice about anything under the sun, Ram Gopal Varma is actually happy at receiving not just one but two legal notices, one after the other, from Maria Susairaj and Emile Jerome, demanding that he does not show his film without their consent.

The film entitled, ‘Not a Love Story’ is set to be released on August 19 and if its director, Ram Gopal Varma, had his way, the film’s showing will go on as scheduled.

Varma said that he would neither show the film as Maria demanded nor ask for consent as Emile wants, as his film is just inspired from their case.

“After Maria, I have received a similar legal notice from Emile Jerome and he has asked me to stop the release of the film. He has demanded that I seek his consent before the release of the film. I am not going to halt the film’s release at any cost. There’s no question of showing the film to either of them,” added Varma.

Varma is adamant that although the central plot of the film is similar to the case involving Maria and Emile, it is just ‘inspired’ from the case and hence he has no legal responsibility to Emile or Maria.

“My heroine is not a South Indian actress and her fiancé is not in Navy as in real case. Also, the film is just an interpretation of what could have happened and not a reporting on what actually happened. No one was there to know what the reality is. This is not his (Jerome’s) story and I am not showing the film to her,” he closes.
