Eddie Murphy to Host the next Oscar

As the ghost of the Academy Award past has crawled back into its grave, The Oscar producers are moving on with optimism. And this year, they might just hit the jackpot with “Funny guy” Mr. Eddie Murphy.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the 50-year-old Nutty Professor star is reportedly “in talks” with the executive producers to host the 84th Academy Awards. Murphy, who started as an stand-up comedian, has been personally handpicked by producer Brett Ratner. “Murphy’s name has been in his (Ratner’s) mind for some time” qouted Deadline.com.

Murphy, who plays Donkey in the computer animated fantasy comedy franchise Shrek, is no stranger to the stage. He used to be also a regular cast member on Saturday Night Live during the 80s.

Seems like Franco’s performance last year was so terrible that the show’s producer are playing it safe this time? Might be true but words has it that Murphy’s unique comical skills and his extensive experience in making people laugh were not the only reason for his candidacy. Murphy, allegedly struck up a friendship with Ratner who happens to be directing his upcoming action flick Tower Heist with Ben Stiller. Meanwhile, Murphy’s rep has not confirmed nor comment on his potential gig.
