Manny Pacquiao Declares VP Run in 2016

During the fourth leg of the promotional tour for his third fight with Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez, Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao dropped a bombshell of an announcement: “In 2016, I am going to run [for] vice president. No more boxing at that time.”

The announcement is like hitting two birds with one stone because it answers two questions right on the spot — first, if he plans to retire soon, and second, what are his future political plans.

But wait, there’s more!

Based on the report of GMA News, the current Sarangani congressman is also planning to seek the gubernatorial post in the same province in Mindanao before embarking on his bid for the second highest post in the land.

However, Pacquiao might not be eligible to run for VP in 2016 because of his age. The Philippine Constitution states that to be eligible to run for Vice President, a candidate must be at least 40 years of age on the day of the election.

Pacquiao was born on December 17, 1978 which will make him only 37 years old during the elections on May 2016.
