Sheryl Crow’s Mercedes Buyers Donates More

They were only legally obligated to pay $143,000 for the vintage Mercedes convertible they bought at an auction. But, the couple who bought Sheryl Crow’s 1959 Mercedes at the August 22 auction in California decided they can give more… for charity’s sake.

And, they did! By doubling the $130,000 that auctioneers paid to the Joplin Schools Recovery Fund.

The generous couple, who chose to remain anonymous, gave another $130,000 to the recovery fund on top of the purchase price they paid for Crow’s Mercedes. After the auctioneers deducted their fees of $13,000, $130,000 went to the recovery fund.

Sheryl Crow, a Missouri native and a teacher before she achieved fame, donated her vintage vehicle to the Joplin Schools Recovery Fund to help rebuild the Joplin High School and seven other schools, which were damaged by the May 22 tornado that hit Joplin.

Crow said in a statement that she was touched by the couple’s generosity, especially since their winning bid exceeded the car’s estimated value of $50,000 to $80,000.

The couple bought the white Mercedes 190SL convertible along with one of Crow’s Gibson guitars, two concert tickets and a photo opportunity with the star.
