Tony Bennett Apologizes for 9/11 Comments

America is supposed to be the land of the free, a country where there is ‘free speech’, but why is it that when someone shares his opinion about something and it strikes a nerve with some people an apology is always in order?

Take Brad Pitt and his comments about his failed marriage with Jennifer Aniston. Sure he was a jerk for suddenly leaving Aniston for another woman, but I’m sure there was something more major than Angie’s reported flirting that caused him to fall for her and leave Jen.

Talking about how he felt he was ‘pretending’ in his marriage to Aniston is not a crime. He was just stating the ‘facts’ as he knew it. Just the same he received a lot of flak for it and he felt he had to apologize or at least explain himself.

It just seems Americans love to sugar-coat and be politically correct about everything when not everything can be sugar-coated and be politically correct. Shit happens – there is not being ‘politically correct’ about it.

Now, here is Tony Bennett, apologizing for sharing his thoughts on what caused the 9/11 tragedy.

Bennett appeared on Howard Stern’s show and made the ‘mistake’ of sharing what he thinks caused 9/11, saying, “They flew the plane in, but we caused it. Because we were bombing them and they told us to stop.”

While there really is no excuse for terrorism, should Bennett apologize for what he said when that was how things came to him?

Did Bennett’s statement make him less of an American who loves his country enough to fight for it during World War II?

Cut the 85-year old some slack.
