Did Action-Thriller “Killer Elite” Lack Firepower?

“Killer Elite” boasts of A-list actors Robert de Niro, Jason Statham and Clive Owen but the action-thriller failed to impress critics. However, paying moviegoers may have different opinions about the film. Critics may have found “Killer Elite” a bad choice of project for the three actors but it was not too bad based on most feedback from viewers.

The story revolves around Danny Bryce (Statham), a retired special operations agent forced out of retirement to rescue his mentor (de Niro) from a gang of highly trained assassins led by Spike (Owen). One might expect rugged action scenes with Statham in the lead but the film veered away from the tried and tested formula of explosive action sequences typically seen in Sylvester Stallone or Arnold Schwarzenegger movies. Shot mostly in Australia and Wales, the film may remind us of the 1998 de Niro starrer “Ronin”.

The film may not have used a lot of hard action scenes but it sure is worth watching if only just to see the three lead actors showcase their talents. It was also reported that the film was based on a true story. Could it have possibly happened in the 1980s? Probably not.
