Spielberg, Zemeckis and Jackman Team Up In ‘Real Steel’

Three familiar names in Hollywood get together in the latest sci-fi action film ‘Real Steel’. Put executive producers Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis and A-list actor Hugh Jackman and ‘Real Steel’ is potentially a winner when it opened this week.

In the not so distant future, the sport of boxing has drastically changed. Fighters have been replaced by 2,000-pound, eight-foot tall robot boxers. Jackman plays Charlie Kenton, a former fighter who turns into a small-time promoter by piecing fighter robots together from scrap materials. Kenton discovers that he has an 11-year old son and they team up to put together and train a robot that could be their shot at a championship.

The film is predictable, reminding viewers of Rocky and Transformers but it is an ideal movie for the family. A down and out lead character trying to seek redemption has been a tried and tested formula with audiences always rooting for the underdog. The target audience is quite obvious as the storyline and action scenes are kid-friendly.
