Justin Timberlake Stars In New Sci-Fi Thriller ‘In Time’

Writer and director Andrew Niccol scored big in the 1990s with hits ‘Gattaca’ and ‘The Truman Show’. His latest offering ‘In Time’ is an attempt at creating another thought-provoking film but it has its share of hits and misses in general.

The story is set some time in the future when time has become a precious commodity. Digital clocks are embedded in everyone that people have to literally buy (and in some cases steal) more time to live past twenty five years.

The premise explains for the young cast of actors led by the multi-talented Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Cillian Murphy and Olivia Wilde. This probably explains too why acting from the stars lacked depth and chemistry given that they are relatively young and short of acting experience. Timberlake shows that he can jump from pop music star to credible actor but Seyfried could have done better than look good on screen.

‘In Time’ is a fine action-adventure escapist film. Sci-fi fans who loved ‘Gattaca’ and ‘The Truman Show’ may have missed Niccol’s works. ‘In Time’ has pretty much the same elements of the genre.
