John 3:16: Why Tim Tebow Racks up with John 3:16 Biblical Verse during NFL Wildcard Playoffs?

Tim Tebow once again was put into controversy during his explosive performance in the NFL Wildcard Weekends Playoffs for his official team in AFC Denver Broncos against Pittsburgh Steelers where Tim Tebow’s favourite Bible verse John 3:16 is being associated with him in the game. John 3:16 verse reads: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

Apparently, the Broncos star Tim Tebow once touted the Bible passage John 3:16 on his eye-black during his days as a Florida Gator but the scripture passage gained more attention after the quarterback’s 316 yards passing helped Denver clinch a nail-biting, overtime victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

According to some reports from international websites, the quarterback’s highly publicized Christian image has long been discussed among sports fans nationwide, but what’s the significance of Tebow’s favorite scripture passage and how has religion played a role in sports? When Tebow etched the scripture in his eye-black for the 2009 BCS Championship Game, about 92 million people conducted a web search for the term, the Palm Beach Post reports.

Furthermore, the much awaited matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Denver Broncos looked like a lopsided one to most fans. Denver backed into the playoffs losing its last 3 games. The Steelers were an 8 point favourite with a ton of both playoff and Super Bowl experience. Tebow’s biggest supporters were starting to doubt his ability to continue to provide the magic for fourth- quarter heroics.

Denver got out to an early lead after it dominated the 12-win Pittsburgh Steelers in the first half. Tebow ended the first half with one rushing and one passing touchdown. Tebow took his Broncos into halftime up 20-6.

At the coin toss went Denver’s way. One play and 80 passing yards later had Tebow was jumping into the stands to celebrate his first playoff win. After the much anticipated game, Tim Tebow once again practiced his way of praising God in opening remarks to the media. Tim Tebow once again became controversial with the said Bible verse John 3:16.
