Katherine Heigl Stars and Produce One for the Money

Hollywood, California – The comedian actress Katherine Heigl thrust towards producing her very first movie after buying the rights to the popular Janet Evanovich novel titled One for the Money. The movie stars Katherine Heigl as Stephanie Plum and was released in the United States on January 27, 2012 under the Lionsgate distribution arm.
The plot of this new movie revolves around Stephanie Plum played by Katherine Heigl. Stephanie was a lingerie seller turned bounty hunter. She is out of work and out of cash, turns in desperation to her disreputable cousin Vinnie, of Vinnie’s Bail Bonds, for work. Despite having no equipment, training or particular skill she becomes a bail enforcement agent, chasing after Vinnie’s highest stakes bail jumper: Joe Morelli, a former vice cop who is wanted for murder, who also happened to seduce and dump Stephanie back in high school.

Thrown in for good comedic measure is a possible informant and wisecracking prostitute (The View’s Sherri Shepherd) and Plum’s oddball grandmother (the Oscar-honoured Debbie Reynolds), who each offer her observations, solicited and not.

The film is the first version of 18 books, so the 33-year-old is hoping for a franchise of her very own.

Despite the fact that it took her longer than expected to make the movie, Heigl became a fan of being her own boss. “I loved the producer role on this. It was important to keep the film really close to the book, because that’s what I fell in love with, and that’s what millions of readers have fallen in love with,” Heigl says from Los Angeles, where she’s promoting the movie.

The struggle of making ends meet is as familiar to Heigl as it is to her fictional Stephanie Plum character.
“I had lots of ebbs and flows, certainly, before Grey’s Anatomy,” says Heigl, who acted in the Emmy-winning series from 2005 to 2010. “I was living from paycheque to paycheque, too.”

That’s why she’s guarded but optimistic about the future of a Stephanie Plum franchise.
“My goal is to do two or three movies from the series,” Heigl says. “But you never know, it could be like the James Bond series.”

One for the Money was not screened for critics, but has, so far, received universally negative reviews. It currently holds a 3% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 28 reviews.
