Lady Gaga and Other Stars Go Offline from Twitter and Facebook For Charity

lady gagaAlicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Ryan Seacrest, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Elijah Wood, Serena Williams, Janelle Monae and other celebrities joined a new campaign called Digital Life Sacrifice on behalf of Alicia Keys’ charity, Keep a Child Alive.

The stars plan to sign off of social networking sites, including the most used Twitter and Facebook. This campaign will start on Tuesday, also the WORLD AIDS DAY. It was agreed that the celebrities will only sign back in when the charity had raised 1 million dollars.

“It’s really important and super-cool to use mediums that we naturally are on.”

“This is such a direct and instantly emotional way and a little sarcastic, you know, of a way to get people to pay attention,” Keys said.

The celebrities have filmed videos–with a really superb concept–called “last tweet and testament” which will be seen in ads.

Keys believes that the celebrities would make a good job of drawing people to pay attention to issues, so she got them to cooperate. According to her, “not one person said no”.

The charity accepts donations through bar-code technology and text messages.
