The Filipina singer,who has released her second album,Infinity,last October 5 in Japan, is enjoying the warmth and support of the people from the Rising Sun.

In the three-part interview2 conducted by the magazine, Charice opened up about her new album,family and criticisms and her dream movie role.

In her latest album,Infinity,Charice differentiated her second album from her self-titled debut album by saying,”The second album is a lot different from the first album. It has more dance songs. A lot of singers and producers worked with me…Bruno Mars, Natasha Bedingfield. It’s very exciting and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

Half-Filipino, Bruno Mars composed the “Before It Explodes” track and Natasha Bedingfield co-wrote the song “Lighthouse.”

She confessed,her second album is the reflection of her love of singing and dancing.

“I think this album is a big challenge for me. The songs are dance songs…I love to dance actually so this album is like a dream come true for me. The songs will actually let me show my dance moves…not as great as Michael Jackson [laughs].”

This 11-track album is a follow up to her self-titled album that allowed her to become the first Filipino solo artist to penetrate the Top 10 of Billboard 100. Her international album Charice, which has the carrier single “Pyramid,” debuted at the No. 8 slot in May 2010.

Far from her first album-which is more ballad and RnB in taste, her second album has a new flavor and the same Charice we all love.

“The other big challenge…I hope people would still love it the way that they loved the first album. The first album was more ballad, more pop-R&B. You can still hear the belting high notes [laughs].”

On the other note, being famous at such a young age may seem to be honey and roses to those of us who aspires to succeed.However,Charice admits her deep gratitude to persons behind her success, Oprah and David Foster and also shares her painful experiences that comes with her success and the setback she encountered while journeying. After achieving so much in the international music scene, Charice expressed her gratitude for the people who helped catapult her to stardom.

“Sometimes I think I don’t deserve it coz I know that there are a lot of great singers and better singers than me. I just think that I’m very lucky to be discovered by Oprah and David Foster.”

“When I was a kid, I always wanted to be a famous singer in the Philippines.”

At this point, the interviewer reacts by asking, “In the Philippines? Not in the world?”

Charice vehemently shook her head and reiterated, “In the Philippines…A lot of people say ‘dream big.’ But that time, I was like, ‘it’s never going to happen to me. I just want to be a singer in the Philippines.’

“You can’t really tell and decide your future. Someone just saw me on YouTube and that’s it…it was so fast.”

CHARICE BATTLING CRITICISMS

Way before her stardom,Charice has already faced negative criticisms especially on her physical appearance.

Charice revealed how she faces her detractors with dignity,”They’re just saying a lot of negative stuff because they’re jealous. They’re jealous that they don’t have the great thing that’s in you.

“They’re just words, if you think about it. They can tell me, ‘Charice is ugly.’ They’re just words, they’re not going to kill you. If they tell you, you don’t have the looks. Okay, as long as you’re not stabbing me with a knife, I’m fine.

“Of course, it’s going to hurt a little because it’s you because it’s going to affect you a little. But if you think deeper, why am I going to be depressed or sad? It’s just words. If you actually show them that you’re strong, they will still try to bring you down until you just give up.

“But as long you show them kindness or you show them that you’re a strong person, they’re the ones who are going to give up.”

She also shared her experiences joining hundreds of singing contests and how some of the contests had wounded her.

“I joined—literally—a hundred plus singing contests. It was really so hard…”

When the interviewer asked if she found it difficult to win singing contests, Charice confessed, “Yeah! There’s a lot of talented singers in the Philippines…”

She then narrated an anecdote about a contest that pre-judged her because of her appearance.

“There’s this story…I went to audition and it’s so sad. They didn’t let me sing coz they told me that I didn’t have the looks. I’m not saying that I’m pretty like celebrities. I don’t have the celebrity ‘X factor’ but my intention is just to share my music and talent to the world.

“It’s so painful to have somebody tell you that you can’t join this contest because you don’t have the personality or the looks. It was so hard but I think that the greatest part is that I didn’t give up and I went back to audition again. They didn’t remember me and they told me to sing. I was prepared with a little makeup and [I wore] a skirt. They didn’t remember me when they told me, ‘You’re so great! You’re in!’ I was like, ‘Wow, you don’t remember me. You told me I couldn’t be in your contest coz I don’t have the looks.’ She just looked at me and she was just surprised.

“I was surprised too but it felt great actually. I just wanted them to know that it’s not just about the looks. It’s about the talent, it’s about your intention.”

Charice is also set to be one of the stars in HERE COMES THE BOOM with the Latina Salma Hayek.

“I just finished filming a movie. It’s called Here Comes the Boom. It’s an action-comedy. I play a high school student…a genius high school student. She still sings. It was a great experience.

“I love acting. I just finished Glee [Season 2] and the movie. I would love to do more. I would love to try horror but I don’t want to play the victim. I want to play the killer…You know like The Ring or maybe The Grudge.”

Charice then playfully acted as if trying to scare viewers.

The Filipina singer is slated to return to the Philippines for her October 25 concert at the Araneta Coliseum. Charice will perform with her mentor, David Foster, for the Asian tour of David Foster and Friends.

Guests featured in the concert also include Michael Bolton, Ashanti, Russell Watson and Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire fame.

Charice’s voice amazed Bull Doctor producer Kayuza Toda. That’s why he personally chose the young singer to sing for his show’s theme song. “It was shocking when I first heard Charice’s songs. I was so fascinated by her voice which is so stretching and powerful, and the experience got me reaching out to her and asking for a song. I have this strong confidence and conviction in my heart that the message of humanism this drama will give, and the emotions that Charice will bring to this drama, will make a fantastic collaboration,” Toda said in Warner Japan’s official website. Bull Doctor is just one of the Japanese shows that Charice will be sharing her voice with. Her latest single “Louder” is also going to be the used as theme song for the a Japanese morning show Mezmashi TV.

The soaring of Charice’s career has been unstoppable. She just played a part in the second season of the popular musical show Glee wherein the entire world was able to hear her stunning voice.

Quite cruel really, since this sort of thing is happening to her despite all her success in the Hollywood scene that has made the country proud. Unfortunately, this did not deter people from issuing a slew of negative comments for her “appearance”, more particularly her weight.

Charice made the announcement that she was bidding Facebook goodbye via a tweet on Tuesday saying, “Glad I deleted my Facebook. It’s funny to invade some non-public pages and see other “not so true chasters” talk negative stuff about me.”

Well, at least she is still on Tweeter. We can at least get 140-characters worth of fresh new coming directly from her. Let’s just hope she does not give up on social networking entirely and for good.

The issue stemmed from the previous denial of Charice that she is not joining Glee, but only weeks after that, she jubilantly posted on Twitter account that at last is one of the cast of the US TV show.

Some people then raised the issue whether Charice lied about her plans to join Glee.

Charice’s mother said though that they never lied about the issue and only that the rumor of her joining the show happened even before Charice went to audition.

But according to sources by ABS-CBN, the audition of Charice was intentionall donned by her camp in secrecy so as to prevent leaks from reaching the Philippines and ruin the chances of the 18 year old singing sensation from joining the show.

Charice camp clarified the issue and got back at her detractors,

“Hindi nagsisinungaling si Charice kasi hindi namin alam noong time na ‘yan, noong kumalat yan ay nagulat ako. Nagulat ako kasi hindi pa namin ginagawa ay kumalat na.

Bakit naman magsisinungaling si Charice? Lahat naman yan kung di mo hawak ang kontrata ay wala pa talagang kasiguraduhan. Basta kami hindi dapat naglalabas ng isyu na hindi ka sigurado. Wala akong masasabi. Basta ang masasabi ko lang, ayoko ng magsabi na sa ibang tao.

Second season lang siya. Hindi naman siya pangkalahatan… Dapat maging proud ang lahat kasi ang iba nagta-try makapasok, pero siya nakapasok. Nabigyan ng pagkakataon,”

Charice Pempengco confirmed that she is joining the Season 2 of US TV show “Glee”. Her announcement was first read through her Twitter account:

“It’s official. I’m on Glee (next season) but story behind it. When [the] rumor came out, it wasn’t true.”

Charice admitted that she auditioned and was accepted though it is not yet known if she will become a regular cast for the second Season or will have guest appearances.
