However, a board member of the Manila Golf Club who spoke to PEP.ph clarified one thing: Pacquiao submitted an application to Manila Polo Club and not to the Manila Golf club.

When asked for the possible reason why Pacquiao’s application was disapproved, this board member said, “It’s a small club in a small village. They want to preserve a lifestyle.”

Translation: The problem could be Pacquiao’s penchant to bringing a whole entourage with him wherever he goes.

The board member cited the case of The Manila Golf Club’s two honorary members—the Philippine President and the mayor of Makati City. They, too, are not permitted to bring along bodyguards.

The board member relates that there was one instance when former President (now Pampanga representative) Gloria Macapagal Arroyo wanted to play golf, but was not allowed to be accompanied by a bodyguard.

So, it is not the ‘pedigree’ that is the problem — it is Pacquiao’s posse.

Manny Many Prizes lived up to its name on its first day. It indeed rained money and lots of prizes on Saturday, July 16 at AFP Theater, Manila, Philippines.

The show had its first big winner on that day. Dito “Jun” Roldan of Payatas City is now a homeowner. Manny Pacquaio gave out a house and lot to the lucky contestant despite the latter making it to the jackpot round.

Co-hosts Rhian Ramos, Paolo Contis, Isabelle Daza, Onyok Velasco and Gladys Guevarra gave out big amounts in the show’s different segments.

One segment, called Baranggay vs Baranggay (Village vs Village), calls for nominations for exemplary residents who are deserving of big prizes. Manny’s Pick is another game resembling a lottery.

People from all corners of the Philippines flocked to AFP Theater as early as the day before with hopes of bagging the top prize. Most of them were from depressed areas hoping for a quick way out of poverty and into instant wealth.

The game show will be touring different towns and cities all over the country according to the first-time game show host. Pacquiao co-produced the show with GMA Network. The show airs Saturdays at 6 p.m. (Manila time).

The live pilot episode guested Glaiza de Castro, La Diva, Ely Buendia and Kapuso artists who made it into FHM 100 Sexiest Women list led by Sam Pinto.

The boxing legend and Sarangani congressman, Pacquiao was named Fighter of the Year at the 19th ESPY Awards (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award) which was held last July 13 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, California.

The ESPY Award is an honor being presented by American cable television network ESPN to recognize individual and team athletic achievement and other sports-related performance.

This is the second time that Pacman has been awarded the ESPY trophy, as he won his first ESPY award in 2009.

This year, Pacquiao’s competitors for the award of Fighter of the Year included Bernard Hopkins, Jon “Bones” Jones, Sergio Martinez and George St. Pierre.

Unfortunately, Manny was not able to accept his trophy personally.

Pacquaio said his Manny Pacquiao Foundation and his new game show are not giving away money by sending people these types of text messages, while Tiangco laughingly said their Kapuso Foundation is eliciting donations for the less privileged and is not giving away money through raffle draws and such as claimed by the text scams sender.
